It has been a couple of years since we donned skates, but it's one of those things - like riding a bike - you just don't forget how to do it. When we were very young, Mummy used to take us every nice day in the winter, after school, to skate on a nearby pond. She would also put her skates on and do laps around the pond while we had our fun. I often tell our international students that I was so young when I learned how to skate that I can't remember not knowing how to skate. I guess it's a Canadian thing!
The Family Skate is a weekly event throughtout the winter sponsored by the Municipality of Richmond County. It takes place at the Richmond Arena from 3:30 - 5:00 pm on Saturday afternoons. The Christmas Family Skate is free and includes hot chocolate and a visit from Santa. It's a great chance to get some exercise with friends and move to some seasonal music. If you missed it this year, make sure you put it on your calendar for next year!
