No Turkeys Died for This Dip

Too soon we have arrived at the other bookend of summer - October long weekend. We closed out the season just as we started it ... at the cottage. Back in May we spent Victoria Day here just hanging on the beach, biking, running, playing cards, and enjoying the nice weather. This weekend we followed the same recipe.

We opened up the cottage early on Saturday just minutes before Cheryl and Brian arrived from Halifax. The skies cleared immediately, and it was soon time for my Turkey Dip (the Thanksgiving version of the New Year's Day Polar Bear Dip) down at the beach. I'm thinking about doing the Marble Mountain Polar Bear Dip this year, so I thought this might be good training; however, the water was not any colder than early July, so I don't think it was much preparation for January in the Bras d'Or. Funnily enough, no one else was interested in joining me for the Turkey Dip, electing instead for post-brunch naps (another favourite cottage pastime).

Après Turkey Dip
Today, I paired a 7km run on beautiful Caribou Island with Daniel's dinner of prime rib, roasted vegetables, and a bevy of Bordeaux + a sliver of Keith's World-Famous Cheesecake. And since there was no turkey factor, we had loads of energy left to listen to opera and play cards (and blog).

Time to give thanks: to Barb and Keith for the use of the cottage; to Cheryl and Brian for joining us; to Daniel for cooking up a fantastic Feast (and the new espresso machine); and to the weather for cooperating all weekend.
