Diggin' It

Remember those potato seeds that we cut early in the summer? Now they are finished growing, and almost every seed produced a potato plant with 6 - 8 potatoes of its own. We had two beautiful days for diggin' them up earlier this week, and luckily Cheryl was home to help with the potato harvest (I'll deal with the beets one of these days):

more air-time in the barn
One of my favourite ways to eat potatoes is Papas Arrugadas con mojo rojo - a popular recipe from the Canary Islands. Given our bounty, I will definitely be cooking up a few batches of Papas Arrugadas (translated: Wrinkly Potatoes) this fall and maybe even inventing my own mojo rojo with all the peppers ripening in the greenhouse

Here is a recipe from Outdoor Lanzarote - one of the Canary Islands to which Terell and I hitch-hiked with a couple of South African surfers oh so many years ago. And in a weird coincidence, I  just found this surf video called Papas Arrugadas which was filmed somewhere in the Canaries. The papas only make a cameo appearance, but wow! this Aritz dude is no couch potato:
