Get Real! (Food)

I recently watched this eye-opening video about how much food we import in Canada while our farms disappear and we eat increasing amounts of genetically modified foods:

In the spirit of Real Food, we try to grow as many of our own vegetables as we can in the garden and greenhouse, raise laying hens, and we have great sources for local beef, pork, lamb, and seafood. Add to this list the patch of chanterelle mushrooms that I found the other day on my morning walk with Sammy. Daniel took some moose steaks out of the freezer to grill for dinner that afternoon, and we had a truly Canadian meal. Probably the only imported product was the wine that went into the sauce (and our bellies), but the "vineyard" is still young and we hope to have this rectified in a few years.

Props to our local farmers' markets - especially the new Port Hawkesbury Community Market  - and to all the people who are making it real.
